What happens at a squint treatment appointment?

So if you come and see me with a squint, for example if you have double vision, you would consult with me, we would take history and examine you. I work with an orthoptist. An orthoptist is, if you like, an eyeball physiotherapist. So they’re very experienced both, with children and adults at dealing with squint. And they will then measure the size of your squint using prisms and on the basis of the measurements that gives us a clue as to the possible underlying cause.

Also, as a part of the squint treatment appointment, you’ll have a thorough and full eye examination. Then having completed the assessment of the squint, from the clinical point of view, that will give us a clue as to how we need to investigate it. And if we think, for example, it might be an underlying urological cause then we may want to organise scans or blood tests  or even arrange for you to see a neurologist.
